A second chance to save your natural tooth.
Root canal retreatment is a specialized procedure used to treat a tooth that has previously undergone root canal therapy but did not heal properly or has become reinfected.
In some cases, complex anatomy, narrow or curved canals, or delays in placing a final restoration can leave the tooth vulnerable to bacteria. New decay, fractures, or a loose filling can also expose the root canal system, leading to renewed infection.
During retreatment, our endodontist carefully removes the previous filling material, thoroughly cleans and reshapes the canals, and then seals the tooth again to prevent future issues—giving your tooth a second chance at lasting health.
Persistent symptoms after a root canal may require retreatment.
Ongoing pain or discomfort in a tooth that previously had root canal treatment.
Swollen gums near the treated tooth, sometimes with a pimple-like bump indicating an abscess.
Darkening or discoloration of the treated tooth, which may indicate internal infection.
New or recurring sensitivity to hot or cold foods and beverages in a previously treated tooth.
Radiographic evidence of persistent infection, incomplete previous treatment, or new decay.
A loose, cracked, or fallen out crown or filling on a previously treated tooth, allowing new infection.
Our step-by-step approach ensures a thorough, effective retreatment with minimal discomfort.

Mild soreness is normal, but you can resume normal activities within a day. You'll need to see your general dentist for a permanent restoration (usually a crown) to protect the treated tooth. Until then, avoid chewing on that tooth and follow any specific aftercare instructions we provide.
Most insurance plans cover endodontic care. We'll help verify your coverage before treatment and explain any out-of-pocket costs. Our team works with you to maximize your benefits and make treatment affordable.
Common signs include severe tooth pain, prolonged sensitivity to hot or cold, tooth discoloration, swelling or tenderness in nearby gums, and a persistent pimple on the gums. However, sometimes there are no symptoms. Regular dental check-ups can catch problems before they become painful emergencies.
Root canal treatment has a high success rate of approximately 95%. With proper care, most teeth that have had root canal treatment can last a lifetime. Getting a proper restoration (crown) after your root canal is crucial for long-term success.
